My wife, Daughter and I were treated so special throughout our vacation. She will be one of the main reasons we will visit 1 Hotel again at this location. I had virtually no issues, but when I had an issue with my Rent-A-Car, she helped navigate me through the experience, and in the end it felt as if I could go back to my vacation satisfied. The service and set up of these villas is excellent and most have large balconies with grills and expansive views of the ocean and the hotel resort. The aquarium is only 20 minutes away, the airport 30, Lahaina and Kaanapali 35 minutes. Wailea is a beautiful part of the island and close to Kihei town for shopping for essentials and lots of hole in the wall seafood, poke, and diner food joints. If using the hotel amenities is not a priority then you may get more cost-effective options staying at the privately owned villas. You can use the public beach without staying at the main hotel or staying through the hotel booking. However, Ho’Olei has its own pool, gym and poolside massage service so you don’t necessarily need to go over to the big hotel and deal with the larger crowds unless you have small kids that really want a waterslide and lazy river experience. The villas give you the best of both worlds if you rent from the hotel directly, as you can use Grand Wailea’s pools and amenities. (I called down to the front desk and was told there was nobody there until the morning-all they needed to do was to reset the router.The best way for families to do Maui, but quite pricey. Even on vacation, I need to be able to get an internet connection or risk losing a lot of $$$ The only two problems were changing the air travel (which, admittedly, I did twice and the second time was pretty late) but it was treated as non-urgent even when the trip was approaching and the WiFi went out in the hotel. Also wish I would have seen the Bishop museum. But we just drove past them-I wanted to go in. When I saw them listed on the itinerary, I skipped going to them on my early day. The one thing that I was disappointed by was the brevity of the stops at Iolani Palace and the King Kahmeamea statue in Honolulu. Loved finding the sea turtles, also took a whaling tour, snorkeled.
I found some surf lessons and the manta ray tour right next to the hotel in Kona was AWESOME. Actually two of my favorites were activites that were not part of the tour, but were facilitated a bit by Cory.
